Concert Review: Snow Tha Product @ Trees/The Rest Comes Later Tour

TREES IN DEEP ELLUM WAS LIT LAST SATURDAY!!! I’m so glad I got to get out the house and have a good time. I really enjoyed myself and I got to meet some new people as well as see some familiar faces. Now I’m not gonna lie I came to this show specifically in support for Alsace and also to see Audio Push again. At the time I wasn’t familiar with any of the other acts that were there but regardless it was a good show. I started not to even do a review for this show but since I have some footage I figured why not. So here’s how the night went…

I got there around 8:30 and walked up just in time to see Alsace outside selling last minute tickets to the venue. Everybody joked and laughed about how it looked like she was selling somethin else lol. Rick Ross’s song “Hustlin” played in the back of my mind when I was watching her. She really does grind all day and night. The group of people I was with decided to head inside about 15 mins later. Once I got inside I immediately realized whatever footage I was going to get was not gonna be that great. The place was already packed and I was too far away from the stage, but I still had a good view though. In all honesty it wasn’t many black people in there; the crowd was majority Latino/Hispanics. As far as ages, it was mixed with young and old.

Danny F Dot

At around 9:00 Danny F Dot, who is from McKinney, TX, was the first act. The crowd seemed to enjoy him. I can’t quite tell if he’s a rapper or a singer but he reminded me of a Latino version of Justin Bieber. I honestly can’t say I was fully paying attention because the person I came with was engaging in conversation with me during the show. Plus there was this one guy in the crowd that was very distracting. He had come straight from work (his red Sonic shirt was the giveaway) and was dancing so hard all over the place.  I did however later listen to Danny F Dot’s single “She Bad” on sound cloud and its hot! It’s one of those slow twerking songs. It’s available for purchase on Itunes. Some of his other songs do sound like the typical music that’s being played on the radio though. I think he performed about 4 or 5 songs during the show.

Curtis Mayz

Next up was Curtis Mayz and his friend Jay Luse. They are from Oak Cliff, TX and they performed 5 songs. I had to track them down in the crowd after they performed cause I don’t think they even said who they were during their performance. Or maybe I just didn’t hear them, who knows I had been drinking. Curtis Mayz voice slightly reminded me of Lil Boosie, but more Texan. I like his style and they had some nice beats. Curtis Mayz stated his music is heavily influenced by Big K.R.I.T. and if he could compare himself to anybody that’s who it would be. All my Dallas peeps go out and support your own, he’ll be performing next at The Crown and Harp on Greenville August 25th. Go check him out!

Alsace Carcione

The main person I came to see was up next, none other than the Alsace Carcione. Her set started off a little rocky due to sound issues (the DJ was trippin) but she quickly bounced back and moved the crowd.  They hyped her up and cheered her on as she performed her song “Highly Unlikely” without any music. The DJ finally got it together and she continued her set with “Ain’t Goin”, “Black America”, “Been Grindin”, and “Don’t Stop”. As always she did a good job. During her song “Black America” she encouraged people to chant “Black Lives Matter”. I yelled as loud as I could. I caught up with her after the show and so many people stopped her and told her she did a good job, especially with overcoming the sound issues. One guy though stopped her and said “Hey good show but hey all lives matter”. I just stood there giving the side eye. Alsace quickly simply explained the song is from her perspective.

Audio-Push

Next up was the duo Audio Push and I swear you would have thought they were the main act cause they performed at least 8 or 9 songs. But the crowd loved it and so did I. I really like these guys and I know they are gonna blow up. The last time I saw them was at Wale’s show at the House of Blues and you can tell they have evolved some more since then. They performed songs off of their mixtape called The Good Vibe Tribe along with their single “Quick Fast”. During their performance they stated they wanted nothing but good vibes and got the crowd involved in a competition of which side was they loudest. They also encouraged people to spark one up and all get high together. After the show I briefly spoke with Price from the group and refreshed his memory on the last time we met. I told him I wasn’t sure if there would be a review for this show because I didn’t have the best view and he stated that next time they come in town, which if I’m not mistaken he said they would be headlining their own show in October or November,  they’re gonna make sure I’m right up front. Alright now Imma hold you to it young buck. He gave me a warm hug and took a selfie with me.

As far as Snow Tha Product, honestly I couldn’t tell you much about the performance because I left halfway through it. My friend was ready to go and so was I. But I will tell you she did state that she was sick and I was a little thrown off by what she decided to perform in. It was different from the pictures that I had seen online when I googled her. She looked like she was going to a nice get together wearing a peplum black shirt and some jeans. It just wasn’t something I expected to see her perform in. I hadn’t heard of her until the day of the show but her supporters and fans were heavy in the building. I saw a couple people wearing her merchandise. During her performance her panda bear mascot hyped the crowd up and her friend Nay Nay crowd surfed. There also was a point where Snow demanded that the hype people push their way to the front and the laid back people move to the back. I swear she was about to cause a riot up there cause people really started pushing and she had to calm them back down. I thought that wasn’t the smartest thing to say. Later after the show I overheard someone complaining about the fact that she talked through majority of her set, had a lot of opening acts, and really didn’t perform. I wouldn’t know cause I was hanging outside half the time but from what I did see it seemed to be true. If she was sick then who can really blame her. She didn’t cancel they show and she could have.

My friend wound up ditching me while I was talking to Audio Push so I wound up hanging around longer and conversed with Alsace after the show. The line to meet and greet Snow Tha Product was hella long and I really wasn’t interested in that so I left around 1:00. Its crazy cause Deep Ellum was still lit around that time. Anyway I enjoyed myself, Alsace did her thing, and I’m glad I got to meet Audio Push again. Check out the links, pics, and videos below…

Concert Review: Miguel @ South Side Music Hall in Dallas, TX

I’m beyond late on this but hey that’s what happens when you don’t have internet and are busy looking for a real job lol. I should set up a go fund me account lol. Anywho enjoy…

The man with the Golden voice blessed us this past Saturday at the South Side Music Hall with an amazing concert. Tickets were standing only for $39.50 with the show set to start at 8:30. Special thanks to my girl Kescia for buying my ticket (GO BEST FRAN THAT’S MY BEST FRAN!) lol I really appreciate it. We got there around 7:30 and there was already a line waiting to get in. Doors opened at 8:00 and it was hot as hell standing out there waiting. Once we got in I found a good spot and refused to move for fear of losing it lol. So many people were moving throughout the crowd but I wanted to make sure I got a good view for the footage. All of the moving, along with my feet hurting after a while, unfortunately contributed to a little shakiness with the videos. While we were waiting outside we discussed upcoming concerts and whether or not anyone knew who the opening act was. Once everyone got their drinks and got settled in their spot in the crowd we continued the conversation.

Kescia had looked up Dorothy prior to coming but couldn’t find much info on her. I had previously seen where Miguel posted a picture with the two of them on Instagram but had never heard of her either. She’s got sex appeal and is a very pretty lady. Dorothy hit the stage around 9:00 and let us know she was from LA (no surprise he picked someone from his hometown) and proceeded to rock out. She had everyone’s attention and I heard a couple people next to me say “Hey she’s actually really good”.  She performed somewhere around 5 songs and then there was a brief break after that. She’s definitely got a good voice and from what I could hear the lyrics sounded dope. It didn’t take long for the crowd to get into it and rock out too.  The other band members were all males with long rock star hair and they made sure to fling it a lot during the performance. I like rock music too so I can see myself buying their album.

Miguel really didn’t keep us waiting too long. He came on around 10:00 and opened up with “The Thrill” from off of his Kaleidoscope Dream album.   As soon as he came out all the girls screamed and went wild. Someone next to me kept yelling for him to take his jacket off. Another person yelled if she had panties on they’d be on the stage. I admit I screamed a couple times too. No shame in my game lol hell he is fine! He performed a lot of songs, I’d say probably around 15 or 16. Yeah that’s a lot. Every time I thought he was thru he came back with another song. He performed “Going To Hell”, “Beautiful Exit”, “Coffee”, and  “Waves” which are off his new album Wild Heart. He also performed favorites “Sure Thing”, “Adorn”, “Do You…”, and “How Many Drinks” with a twist. Halfway thru his performance he brought out a couple girls, we’re assuming the ones who bought VIP packages, and danced on them and sang to them. The graphics for this show were so nice! Out of all of the concerts I’ve been to I’ve never seen graphics like that. He really put on a show and gave us a lot. He had a lot of fun doin it too. He closed the show out with “Adorn” around 11:30.

Everything about Miguel screams new age Prince. I’ve even heard some people say he has a better voice than Prince. Basically if you’re a fan of Prince you’re more than likely a fan of Miguel as well, if not you should be. I will say the only thing I didn’t like about the show was that sometimes he did a little more dancing than I would have liked. You can see a clip of his “moves” lol on my instagram page https://instagram.com/shelly80sbaby/. There were times when I wanted him to just sing the damn song and stop with all the moving around. He sounds good live and I wanted to hear more of it. I mean I could hear it sometimes, but like I said there were other times where I felt like he was doin too much. Regardless I enjoyed myself and I still feel like he gave a great performance. Peep the links, photos, and videos below and don’t forget to like and share. 🙂

Dallas Unplugged Concert @ House Of Blues/Dallas, TX

Man I had a busy weekend but I’m still hype over the Dallas Unplugged show I went to Friday night. It was so live and I was so happy to be back on the concert scene after being gone for a while. The artists, the band, the background singers, and the DJ all did a phenomenal job and represented Dallas to the fullest. This concert was actually supposed to go down earlier this year but do to the bad weather it had to be rescheduled. I’m so glad they didn’t cancel it all together. The performers were Kirk Thurmond and The Millennials, Diva Sol, Judgemental and The Jury, and last but not least Alsace Carcione. I had the pleasure of meeting Alsace and Diva Sol previously when they opened up for Luke James at the House of Blues and I’ve been a fan ever since. I was super excited to see them shine again at their own show.

The concert was set to start at 8:30 and I was supposed to be there early to meet and connect with people but time just wasn’t on my side. I didn’t get there until 9:00, which was just in time to see Kirk Thurmond and The Millennials performing their song “You Ought To Know”. Never mind that there wasn’t many people there yet because these people still rocked the show as if they were at a crowded stadium. They offered up feel good music that was definitely pleasing to my ears. The music seemed to be a mix between pop and soul and I could hear the Stevie Wonder influence as well. They were playin the mess out the guitar and one of the background singers was definitely feeling it lol. Their set included other songs “Dancing Like You Do” and “Chasing You” which I like too. I’ll continue to support and follow this group on their journey. They actually have a show coming up soon at Josey Records in Dallas on June 27th so if you are free I suggest you go check them out. You won’t be disappointed.

There was a brief break and by now more people started pouring in just before Diva Sol with Soulful Soundz took the stage. I’ve actually seen her perform twice before Friday. The last time I saw her perform was at Mario’s show at Fame Bar and Grill and she killed it then and she killed it Friday too. The band and background singers were amazing and just made the performance even more complete. She performed one of my fav’s “Quality Time” and I got to hear a new song that I hadn’t heard before called “Beautiful Liar”. That joint was nice too. If you like Jill Scott and Lala Hathaway you’ll enjoy Diva Sol’s music, it is neo soul/rnb music that will have you bobbin your head and snappin your fingers. I like how she remixed them a little during the show too. I will say she got the party jumpin. Her song “Quiet Screams” always makes me wanna make a late night phone call lol. The lighting was perfect and I was right up on the stage so my pics came out better this time around. Although there were a couple of camera guys that kept getting in my way I managed to get some good footage.

Next up was Judgemental and The Jury. I let my boyfriend watch their video for their song “Bang Bang” before we went to the concert and he was really feelin them. Their sound is definitely southern and Texan. Reminds me of Bun B and Pimp C. While rappin about life’s struggles and politics this group is bringin the real to hip hop and I think it’s about time we had more people representing Texas in the rap game. Especially Dallas, Texas.  During their performance this older woman stumbled onto me and was like “Oh excuse me baby, BUT THAT’S MY SON ON THE DRUMS RIGHT THERE YAAASSSSS!” and literally spit all on the side of my face (of course on accident). I was like ooookay and just wiped my face on my shoulder lol. Anywho I look forward to hearing more from this group, they were good.

Now for the lady of the night the talented Alsace Carcione…words cannot express how proud I am of this one here. The progress that she has made and the growth I’ve witnessed in what seems like such a short time is just amazing. She really put on a show! The intimacy and how she connected with the audience proved why the support was so real for her. She hustles so hard like her song “Been Grindin” and I can’t wait for the day when I see her on the big screen. Her emotional performance of “Have Mercy” had everybody in the audience damn near in tears when she was discussing her mother and her fight with cancer. She pushed through the song and I’m sure her mother is very proud. The way she was able to take us from hardcore lyrics and beats to emotional neo soul to bouncin party vibes shows how versatile she is as an artist. She performed most of her songs off her latest album Cryptic Conundrum including “Hazy Thoughts” (my fav), “Come Too Far”, and her latest powerful single “Black America” which is so relevant to what’s been going on lately in society and in the news. The crowd showed so much love and me and my party thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Overall this show was off the chain and if you weren’t there you missed out. There were minimal technical difficulties which probably went unnoticed by the crowd and everybody did a great job. There really isn’t anything bad I can say about the night. A girl did try to push up on me in front of my boyfriend which tripped us out but it didn’t ruin the night. We laughed about it later. Well check out the links, photos, and videos below and don’t forget to like comment and share. 🙂

Concert Review: Jazmine Sullivan @ House Of Blues/The Reality Show Tour

Jazmine Sullivan sang her ass off and shook her tail feather this past Friday at the House of Blues. The sold out show included the very talented up and coming artist Jordan Bratton as her opening act. Jordan performed well and Jazmine had the entire crowd going AWF! There were so many people there and there was a lot going on in the crowd before Jazmine hit the stage that I had a slight panic attack and almost left. But I stayed and toughed it out and gathered as much footage as I could for you guys. Get into the details below…

So I arrived at 6:40 and there was already a line but thank goodness it wasn’t that long. Doors are supposed to open at 7:00 but I think it was more like 7:15 once we started going in. Once I made it inside, to give you an idea of how close I was to the stage, if there were rows I would’ve been in the 4th row. The most annoying part about the whole night from beginning to end was the amount of times people kept getting in and out of their spot to go get drinks or whatever. It was the same group of people that were doing it in front of me. Now I understand leaving and coming back once, maybe even twice. But these folks did it at least about 6 or 7 times. I was so over it. Each time they did it I had to back into someone else to make room.

Jordan Bratton hit the stage around 8:00. He started out hiding a little because the lights were very dim and he had a hoodie on. When the beat dropped I literally felt like the bass was gonna make my chest explode the way the vibrations moved through my body. I think everyone around me was a little taken back by it too. He started out slow and then turned up and bounced around the stage full of energy. Some of his dance moves seemed to incorporate some martial arts. Some of the people in the audience seemed to know who he was and nodded their heads with approval. I didn’t know who he was until I came home and did more research on him. I realized I had seen him before when I stumbled across his video for his song “Stranger” and I remember thinking back then this guy is gonna be doin big things. Little did I know he was already doin big things at the young age of 9 playing Simba in Broadways The Lion King. Through his lyrics it’s clear that this guy still remains humble as he warns people about temptations and losing themselves in the fast life. He did a good job and held the crowd’s attention for the most part. There were two awkward moments though. The first one was when he asked the audience to take a pic with him for Instagram. The crowd didn’t turn up for the gram though when the pic was taken. Also during his last song there was a pause moment and everyone thought it was the end and started clapping, mainly because they were ready to see Jazmine. I don’t think it was any shade towards him. Nevertheless he did a great job. During one of his songs he had the lights flashing on and off giving a real rock star kinda feel. It was pretty cool. When he jumped on the piano and started playing he was making these facial expressions that reminded me of Tommy Davidson when he sings lol. He did about 5 or 6 songs including single “Danger” and a cover of Drakes “Hold On, We’re Going Home”.

It was now 8:30 and the quilted curtain was closed and a DJ and the back played some tunes for the crowd. This is when the moving around got to be too much for me and now I was starting to get an attitude with people. One guy who was returning to his spot got up behind me and while I was trying to move to the side he said “alright now don’t back into me like that, I might like it”. I looked at him like MAN GON ON! Then another guy moved him and his friend up next to me, which cause me to almost fall into the people on the other side of me. I gave him the evil eye and he was like “Aw sis don’t be like that it’s Good Friday”. I said “No it’s hot and I’m tired of all this moving!” Some of the people that were saying excuse me trying to get through weren’t even originally in front of us. At that point I started having a panic attack and said to myself if Jazmine don’t come out in 10-15 I’m gonna have to leave cause I can’t take this anymore. This was normal wait time for a concert but this particular crowd was very antsy and personal space was no longer an option. Just when I thought I couldn’t take it anymore an announcer from 105.7 I believe began to introduce Jazmine.

It was now 9:14 and we heard Jazmine on the speakers before we saw her. It took a minute for them to open the curtains, longer than usual or expected. Jazmine appeared in a skin tight black leather dress with tassels hanging from the sleeves, opening up with her song “Famous”. The vocal powerhouse then continued with her first single “Dumb” off of her latest album titled Reality Show. When the crowd saw her dancing and breakin it down they got hype and started bouncing and dancing too. She continued with songs from her first two albums including “Bust Your Windows”, “Lions Tigers and Bears” , and “Holdin You Down”. She danced and had some choreography during her performances and not once sounded out of breath. She performed an acoustic version of “Stupid Girls” and killed “Forever Don’t Last Always”.  There was one guy in front of me that you would have sworn he was in church the way he was raising her hand every time she hit her signature notes. I had to keep moving so that it wouldn’t be in the videos I was recording but I think it’s in every single one lol. During the show she talked a little in between songs and spoke to the audience about self-love. I remember when she decided to take a break from the music industry but I’m so glad she was able to overcome her battles and deliver us that good music we yearned for. She has such a great voice and she is definitely a great performer as well. I have no complaints what so ever. Well I do have one but it was my fault. She started closing the show with “Need U Bad” around 10:13. I recorded some and made my way thru the crowd toward the exit. I was disappointed she didn’t sing “In Love With Another Man” but I was ready to go. I later got home and went on Instagram to look up other peoples videos and low and behold she sang it after I left. I was so hurt lol. I threw a slight temper tantrum lol. She sang a total of 12 songs but I didn’t record them all.

So in conclusion it was a great show, no disappointments from the artist or venue, only the crowd. I was a tad bit surprised there wasn’t a security check. I guess they figured Jazmine Sullivan fans ain’t gonna cause a ruckus. I sure wanted to fight some of those people though. I got a good view and the ticket was only $39. Peep the pics, links, and videos below. Don’t forget to like, share, and comment. Also follow me on Instagram for clips of the shows I go to before I post to the blog.

Concert Review: Erykah Badu @ The Bomb Factory In Deep Ellum

This was absolutely the WORST experience I’ve had with a venue since I have been doing this. At first I tried to be understanding because it was opening night, but then I remembered it was RE-opening night. So they’ve done this before. Which means they should have been better prepared. So many things could have been done differently that would have cut down on the confusion that went on the entire night. They failed miserably when it came to the reserved seating in the balcony and also preparation for the line outside. As far as Erykah Badu, I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about her performance, she was perfect.  So let’s get into it…

fuck-my-life-fml-gif

I had purchased my ticket for $50 pretty much as soon as it was announced back in January and I decided to buy a seat in the balcony so I wouldn’t have to stand. I really wanted a break from general admission standing only tickets. I picked a seat close up that would be perfect for capturing footage of the show.  Since I had a reserved seat I didn’t rush out the house to get there before the doors opened. Doors were supposed to open at 7:00 and I arrived on the street of the venue at 8:30. To my surprise while riding around looking for a parking spot, I discovered that the line to get in was wrapped all the way around to the next street. Basically the line was one big square around the venue. My mouth fell open in disbelief, but then I shook it off and said maybe by the time I find a parking space the line will have gotten better.  WRONG! The line was still wrapped around the block 30 mins later. One thing is for sure, Dallas loves Erykah Badu! A friend of mine said that she felt like she was in line at an amusement park. By now it was 9:00 and I was missing the opening acts. Another friend inside said that they did good but then the person sitting next to me inside said I didn’t miss anything. I didn’t make it inside until 9:30.

giphy (1)

Once I got inside and took a look around I realized this place was HUGE and it was PACKED! It was very dark too.  I made my way upstairs to the balcony and it was packed up there too. The security guard at the bottom of the steps had to point a flashlight on the steps to help people find their way. People that didn’t have reserved seating were really taking up too much space and it was hard moving around up there. I kept thinking if there was an emergency or something, this would be really bad. They really should have cleared the way for people to make it through. There were a couple flat screens playing sports throughout the venue and it didn’t seem to interrupt anything. Once I made my way to the end of the row where I was supposed to be sitting I noticed someone was in my seat. So I spoke with the security on that end and he directed me to the other end of the row. So I went to the other end and someone was sitting in that seat also. So security made the person get up. Throughout the night they had to keep asking people to get up because the seats didn’t have any signs or numbers on them to let people know those were reserved. When I was sitting there I was thinking to myself I know I paid to sit closer to the stage. So I asked the person next to me on my right did they select a closer seat and they said yes. I asked the person on my left and they said yes also. So I pulled the seating chart up online and low and behold they had switched everyone around. Instead of them seating us the correct way with the seats going 1-33, they had it the opposite way going 33-1. So everyone who was supposed to be closer was now far away. The couple next to me complained that they had been moved 3 times already because security kept sitting them in the wrong seat and they were just gonna let it go. Because I have a blog and wanted to get great footage and wasn’t JUST there to enjoy the show, I went to the security guard, showed him the seating chart online and he talked in his ear piece and I went and sat back down and waited for him to come and fix the situation. Well he never came. So I went and talked to him again and he advised me to go to the ticket booth and speak to someone down there. By now it’s 10:15 and I was scared the show was about to start and I would miss it so I rushed downstairs as fast as I could and got ahold of the box office manager. She told me she would see what she could do and come up there and find me. I ran back up stairs and to my surprise my seat was gone. Not that someone was sitting in my seat, but my whole seat was gone. So once again I’m back talking to security to get now another issue solved. And once again all he did was talk into his little ear piece. Another security guard had made her way over there and informed me that everyone on that row paid the same price so it’s not like one person gets better than the other. I angrily said to her “I paid to be in seat 8 not seat 26! I selected a closer seat!” She said to give her a minute and she’ll be back to help me. I stood there looking misplaced and frustrated. She never came back so I just took it upon myself to ask everyone in seats 1-7 to kinda scoot down and make enough room for me to get back into my spot. Everyone was nice and understanding and they moved down for me. I gave security the evil eye because I couldn’t understand why he couldn’t just do that. But even after all of that I still had no seat. So I just stood there in my space for majority of the show. The box office manager finally made it up to the balcony where I was and all she did was hand me her card along with the production manager’s card and offered tickets for another event. What I really wanted was my money back.

tumblr_inline_mjpov09Xay1qz4rgp

I tried to just enjoy the show, but the more I looked at my screen on my phone when I was recording and saw that the footage and pics wasn’t as good as it would’ve been had I been in the right seat, the seat that I selected online when I paid for my ticket, the more I got upset. Not only that I paid more for my ticket so that I could sit instead of stand and here I was standing, after already standing in that long ass line outside. Erykah Badu made it onstage around 10:56 and opened up with “20 Feet Tall”. The wonderful lady next to me offered to take turns sitting down because she felt bad for me and was just as pissed about everything. Erykah had on this huge black pancho-esque coat and I couldn’t help but think damn I know she is hot as hell in that thing. She took it off later during the show revealing her overalls. One of her kids ran out on stage during her performance, I’m assuming her youngest one. It was cute. She repped her city hard during the show and the crowd embraced her with open arms. The songs flowed smoothly into each other without her hardly coming to any stops or intermissions. The sound was crisp and clear and she had a backdrop with graphics playing during the show. While I was there I received a text from my friends letting me know they would be around the corner at a spot called Freemans (The Free Man Cajun Café and Lounge) and asked me to swing by before I went home. The more I stood there trying to focus my camera, the more being there with my friends seemed like a better idea.  I looked around and found an empty seat and went over and asked the people around was it taken, and one of the gentlemen was kind enough to carry it over to my area for me. But even after I got a seat I still just couldn’t shake it off and get over the fact that I was so far away. I gave up and said goodbye to my neighbors after she performed “Window Seat” around 11:30 and headed downstairs to the box office to see about a refund. The box office manager was nowhere to be found and I didn’t want to wait around for her. I made my way to Freemans to meet my friends. While I was walking down the street I chatted with a couple who were walking behind me and asked them did they enjoy the show and they said they did, and that the long line to get in was their only complaint.

friends

I met up with my friends and I have to say I had way more fun at Freemans than I did The Bomb Factory. I had a front row view of some very talented individuals that were performing. The more intimate feel along with good drinks and good company definitely made up for what I had just been through. The group that was performing was called The Found which included Marcus Jones (drummer), Chris Traylor, MC Cyfa Fix, Charlie Hughes (guitar), Robert Gaines (Bass), Jordan Walker (keyboards), and James Robinson (keyboards).  The band was all the way live and had me sayin yaasss and bobbin my head the whole time. They was jamming and having a good time while doin it. From what I was told they perform there quite often and also at Sandaga 813 downtown. I remember thinking damn this is what I’ve been missing out on all this time. My friends have been trying to get me to go to Freemans for awhile now and I’m so glad I went and had such a wonderful experience.

So my night wasn’t completely ruined, Erykah Badu was awesome, The Bomb Factory gets a thumbs down, and I’m already ready to go back to Freemans. Shout out to the people that were nice to me at The Bomb Factory: Ashley and her boo (seats 9 & 10), Whitney (seat 7), and Flozell for carrying my chair for me. Thanks for reading this loooong review and don’t forget to like, share, and comment. I definitely would like to hear other peoples experience there at The Bomb Factory. Concert Review: Mario @ Fame Bar & Grill/Fireball Tour

Last night was an interesting and entertaining night I must say! Thought I was gonna be ridin solo but ended up meeting a group of wonderful ladies that I kicked it with the whole night. Ladies if you’re reading this…YOU ROCK! I also saw some familiar faces and hopefully made some new friends.

Flame Bar & Grill

The show was at a place named Fame Bar & Grill located in Uptown Village in Cedar Hill,TX and they were having their pre-opening event last night. Doors opened at 9:00 and I arrived just minutes after. They had valet parking for $10 but I just didn’t find it necessary and found my own parking spot. Had I not seen the line and the bright lights I would’ve been driving around for a bit looking for the place because I didn’t see a name anywhere.  It could’ve been one there but it was dark, I’m not sure. There weren’t many people in line when I walked up (about 12 people) and they were only letting VIP members in only at the time.  The doorman was entertaining. General admission tickets were $22 and VIP was $50. There were quite a few people already inside. I started chatting with the women in line in front of me and these were the same ladies I wound up linking up with later on. Let me say Fame Bar & Grill looks niiiiiice. I couldn’t tell if they had a dress code but the way the place looked I would think it should have. It was very elegant and grown and sexy. The bar area was nice and all of the staff I ran into were very professional and nice as well. While the ladies and I were sitting at a table in a private area we got a chance to meet the owner and he took us over to another VIP section closer to the DJ’s. The DJ’s were Hollywood and Takeover and they had people up on their feet dancing.  Everybody looked like they were having a good time.

Ce'Mel Raysean

The first act, Ce’Mel Raysean, who is from Houston but has been doing his thing in Dallas for a while, hit the stage around 10:30 and I left the VIP area to get a better view. He did a good job and he looked casket sharp. Go head boy. Something about him reminded me of Donnell Jones. Quite a few people had made it in and now it was packed. Unfortunately there were so many people walking by where I was standing that the videos came out a little shaky. After his performance he passed out his mixtape/cd . I didn’t get one so I couldn’t tell you how good it was.

Diva Sol

The next act was R&B sultry singer Diva Sol and I had the pleasure of hearing this talented woman at the Luke James concert back in October with rapper Alsace Carcione. This woman’s vocals are the bomb and I love her music. Hair, outfit, makeup…everything was on point. The crowd seemed to enjoy her performance as well. She got their attention and I noticed a lot of people bobbin their heads to the smooth melodies. The only thing I didn’t like was the lighting was nice and sexy in person but it didn’t help my photos 😦. Her EP will be released on the 21st at club Sandaga 813 in Dallas and will soon be available on SoundCloud and Itunes. I’ll provide the link below. I look forward to hearing more from her in the future.

Shailaun Manning

Shailaun Manning was the next artist up and I actually got a chance to see her getting her make up done in the VIP section earlier in the night. The beautiful soul sista had a very pretty voice but unfortunately I couldn’t hear much of it. Seemed like the music was overshadowing her. By the way that band was off the chain, they were really jammin. Sadly I only have one video of her performing (thought I had more but don’t know what happened to them) but she did have good stage presence and like I said from what I could hear she sounded great. The video was shaky cause there were people bumping into me. It was so crowded where I was standing.Diva Sol and another woman assisted as background singers.

Mario 1

By now it was around 12:00 and Mario had finally made it. I watched him slide right in from one of the exit doors and he immediately hopped right on stage. Dressed in all white Mario was looking sexy! He started out with his first single “Just A Friend” and throughout his performance kept asking where are the single ladies. I mean I would have waved him down but I was too busy trying to keep a steady recording lol. He did three more songs including his new single called “Fireball” and he ended his performance with “Let Me Love You”. I was hoping he would do “Crying Out For Me” or “How Could You” but he didn’t (sigh). But it’s all good he did a good job. The Baltimore native even did a little thrusting and raised his shirt up, heeeeyyyy lol. Mario has a great voice and can sing live I know, but there were also times where it was hard to hear him (mainly during Fireball). I was able to capture a little of that when the music was turned down. He’s now independent which maybe explains why I haven’t heard much about his upcoming projects but I love his music so I’ll be staying tuned. His new album titled “Evolve” doesn’t have a release date yet but I’m hoping it will be sometime this year.

Overall I had a good time, met some cool people, and I’m excited to see what else this new venue Fame Bar & Grill has coming up. I looove the fact that it’s literally 5 mins from my house. The owner did mention Chante Moore so I’ll be on the lookout for that. Besides a few minor hiccups here and there, their pre-opening seemed to be a success and I’ll definitely be back. The pre-order for the tickets were even cheaper so it was well worth it. Check out the pics, videos, and links below and please don’t forget to like and share.

Sidenote: Oh yeeeeah did I mention I got a pic with Mario during the meet and greet. Ugh I look so crazy in the pic and was totally unprepared but he’s so damn cute. But I didn’t get to talk to him much it was so much going on around us. Hopefully next time…

Concert Review: Ledisi Feat. Raheem Devaughn & Leela James/Intimate Truth Tour

This show was phenomenal and each artist represented real R&B soul to the fullest. These three were the perfect combination for a great show. These are sangers, not singers, sangers lol. I wasn’t too sure the show was even going to happen because of the weather but I got an email from ticketmaster saying the show is still on. The venue was the Majestic Theatre and I paid about $80 for my ticket. I was in the center of the lower level and in the third row. It was set to start at 8:00pm and I got to my seat at 7:30pm. It had been forever since I had been to the Majestic Theatre, I had only been once to see a stage play when I was in my teens. When I looked around I felt like I was at the Apollo Theatre. The seats were small and the rows were tight.

There weren’t many people there at first but the sold out show pretty much filled up once Leela James hit the stage which was about 8:15. She came out on stage with that big bouncy hair and tight fitting outfit, mama was THICK and had BODY hunty! I was like yaaass work it girl. She sounded great and looked great too. She opened up her show with “Who’s Gonna Love You More” and tried to hype the crowd up saying “Y’all ain’t afraid of a little snow are ya?!” During her performances she pulled two guys up on the stage (separately) to dance with her. Why was both of them chewing gum like cows chewing on grass lol. When it came time for her performance of “Fall For You” the whole crowd started screaming and she started to cry a little. During her last performance of “Let’s Do It Again” she invited the whole front row up on stage to dance and somebody’s uncle/grandpa was getting it lol. Couldn’t tell him nothing. She sang 7 songs and after her set was over they went for a quick intermission.

Raheem Devaughn came out around 9:00 and I must admit…He was one of the artists that I was not checking for like that. I always thought his music was good and I liked his singles, but when he first hit the scene I saw two bad live performances and from that point on I always thought he was a studio singer. So I must say that I was not excited to see him. BOY DID HE SHUT ME UP AND PROVE ME WRONG! First of all the first thing I noticed was that big bulge in his pants when he came out. I mean did he take a Viagra before he hit the stage? Did somebody whisper somethin in his ear before he came out? Ion know but it was fine by me! He started off with “Bulletproof” which has such a powerful message and is so relevant to what is going on in the world today. I was bouncing in my seat. He took us back to old school music and followed up with “When You Love Somebody”. You know how a song get to speakin to you when you drinkin that brown liquor…yeah that’s what that was lol. You know when Maddog was sittin there drinkin talkin to himself in Jason’s Lyric…yeah that’s what that was lol.  During his performance he grabbed himself quit a few times, humped the staged, and even went out to the crowd and humped a girl in the audience. I’m sure somebody got pregnant up in there. He sang 7 songs as well. Before he closed the show he mentioned his nonprofit organization that brings awareness to domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, mental illness and many other things affecting our community. I’ll provide the link below. So yeah, the whole time during his performance I was lookin like this…

There was another intermission and Ledisi came on around 10:00. Babaaay when I tell you she was giving I AM THE QUEEN when she stood at the top of those steps. Giving sexy sultry eyes and a sexy walk she let us know she has arrived and she came to put on a show. She opened up with “Lose Control” and man this woman’s vocals though! I messed around and didn’t record the scatting that she did cause I was so much in awe. She is one of the few that I love to hear scat. She played around with the audience about being too stuck up when she talked about sex. I can just imagine the looks on some of the older folks there lol. At one point she let her background singer Danetra Moore take over the rest of a song and when I tell you that girl can blow! Various “YOU BETTA SANG GIRL” was heard throughout the crowd. During her performance she told a story and took us through the three stages of a relationship with her song selection…the beginning, the middle, and the end or new beginning. When we got to the end/new beginning of a relationship she spoke about her new acoustic album titled “Intimate Truth” and she performed the acoustic version of some of her songs. One of those songs was “Stay Together” which features Jaheim but since Jaheim wasn’t there she playfully sang his part. Before she closed out her show she went out to the crowd and up to the balconies to show them some love. One of my friends, who is a huge fan and is also a singer, was up there and she got a bomb picture of Ledisi while she was standing right in front of her. She closed the show around 11:30 with “Bravo” and spoke to the audience about following their dreams and not giving up. I know she was preachin to somebody and somebody needed to hear that message.

tumblr_inline_mwvq02LAYE1qh4o96

Overall the show was the bomb and I advise everyone to go see them next time they are in town, whether together or separately cause you’re gonna get your monies worth. I think out of all of them I enjoyed Raheem Devaughn the most. I don’t know if it was because I doubted him and I was shocked at his vocals or because he was unbuttoning his shirt lol. Anywho I got my life and get yours too lol. Peep the pics, links, and videos below…

Sidenote: This man sitting directly in front of me head smelled so bad y’all. I mean like he hadn’t washed it for months. Just a bunch of dandruff, cheap grease, and whatever else. I just know every time he moved I got a serious dose of it. I’m talkin bout GAG reaction. SMH and he was too damn old for that. And his girlfriend next to him ought to be shamed. How you keep your hair cut but it still smell bad o_O
