Concert Review: Lyfe Jennings @ Medusa in Dallas, TX

The grown and sexy was in the building at Medusa this past Thursday for Lyfe Jennings show. There were definitely a lot of lovers there too, I’m assuming because it was two days before Valentine’s Day. I called myself wanting to get inside early so I could get a seat because I really wasn’t in a turn up type of mood, but I unfortunately got hung up in the parking lot across from the club. Usually there is a parking attendant there and you just hand your money to them and they give you a ticket. Well I guess the city or whoever owns that parking lot decided they didn’t wanna pay people to stand out there anymore and replaced them with an electronic parking meter. It was cold as hell, the birds above me freaked me out a little (I was afraid I’d get pooped on), and people were taking forever in this long ass line. I finally made it inside around 9:15 and all the seats where taken. I heard DJ Phil on the one’s and two’s so I decided to make my way up to the DJ Booth to say hi. After speaking I headed back downstairs and copped me a seat and crowd watched. Once again nobody wanted to get out on the dance floor so they all just stood around it and danced where they were standing. It literally was only two couples who didn’t give a damn, they went ahead and stepped to the music on the dance floor. After some time DJ Phil said something like “alright y’all ready for Lyfe Jennings to hit the stage” and literally everybody started rushing to the stage. I looked at the time and I knew it was too early but I followed suit because I wanted a good spot.

KJ Midday from 105.7 came out to introduce Lyfe and promote the stations cash giveaway and after she stepped off the stage a guy in the audience decided he was gonna start singing one of Lyfe’s songs super loud. The crowd joined in and next thing you know seemed like all of Medusa was singing along. Lyfe jumped on the mic and said “sound like y’all done started without me” and then made his way on the stage around 10:30. He started out with his song “My Life” and sang about 8 songs along with a few snippets. Of course he closed the show with his hit “Must Be Nice”. Lyfe is known for his realness and his lyrics being relate-able and he kept it real and let us know he did not have a specific format/order to how he was gonna perform.Throughout the show he struggled with the mic and we kept getting that high pitched feedback through the speakers. At first he was too low and he kept asking them to turn him up, seemed like he asked about 5 times. Then it seemed too loud at one point. Nevertheless he sounded great and so did his background singers. During the song “S.E.X.” he took a backseat and let his background singer Ms. Netta have the spotlight for a moment and she did her thing.

All in all it was a good show even with the technical difficulties. I wish he would’ve sang all of “Hypothetically” but it’s all good. The only other thing I didn’t like was I was standing next to a girl who decided she was gonna sing loud in my ear. Girl I came to hear Lyfe not you. Honestly because of the technical difficulties he asked the crowd to sing along and seemed like the whole crowd did. Tickets were about $30 and it was pretty packed but not so packed that it was uncomfortable. The show ended around 11:30. Check out the links, pics, and videos below and don’t forget to like, share and comment…

Sidenote: Sooo after the show they said Lyfe would be taking pics with fans in the VIP section so I moseyed on over there and made sure I was RIGHT on the rope. I figured a pic with him would be good for the blog. When I tell y’all those girls pushed and shoved and acted like wild animals, I just couldn’t take it anymore. Especially since there seemed to be a certain “type” he was choosing to take pics with once he got there. No shade but you would have thought it was Trey Songz or Chris Brown the way those women were actin. I was like bump this I’m goin home, it ain’t that deep to me.

Concert Review: Wale @ House Of Blues Dallas/Simply Nothing Tour

This show might as well had been the “Opening Acts Tour” instead of the Simply Nothing Wale tour. He literally had six opening acts before he came on stage, three in particular I really enjoyed.  The first two people that came on I couldn’t even tell you what their name was and it was hard finding some people after the show to gather information. Here’s some advice for any new artist or unsigned artist that’s out there tryna get it and promote themselves….Have some freakin flyers or promotion cards to pass out after the show with all of your information! Geez! That’s one thing I appreciated so much about the artist Alsace Carcione that opened up for Luke James. She had everything ready right there on the cards after the show. I know some of these guys are already on a label but it would help so much for people like me who want to put more word out.

Chaz French

The doors open at 7:00 and people were already lined up outside HOB at 6:30, I got there right at 7:00. It wasn’t long before they brought us inside. Once I got inside I linked up with my girl Kescia and we had a pretty good view of the stage. The first act came on stage a little after 8:00 and like I said I couldn’t tell you what their name was or the person after him. The first group wasn’t all that great and the second guy did ok. The crowd didn’t seem to be feeling it much either, at least from where I was standing. And really apparently throughout the night the other side was a little more hype than the side I was on period. Anyway next up was rapper Chaz French and this guy grabbed my attention. Coming from the D.C. area he’s bringing rawness back to hip hop and I love it! He did say that he lived in Texas for a while so there is some influence there as well. This guy had so much energy I mean WOW. I kept thinkin damn did he drink like 5 energy drinks before hitting the stage lol. He woke the crowd up and had everyone bouncing, he did good. Not only are his songs catchy but I listened to his music on sound cloud and he’s actually talking about somethin. His really dope EP titled “Happily Belated” is out and I’ll provide the link below.

Next up was Good Luck Bonez and Good Luck Fortune who are a part of Good Luck Forever record label, which if I’m not mistaken is run by rapper Bizzy Crook. These two guys did their thing and they kept the crowd going even though some people seemed to be growing impatient waiting on Wale to hit the stage. Out of the two I liked Good Luck Bonez style more but I’m looking forward to following them both and watching their growth. I like their music but I need more info on where to find it. I briefly spoke to them after the show and they were very nice and approachable. I hope to see more of them and I would like to see them again next time they’re in town.

Bizzy Crook

Ok so next was Bizzy Crook, who I later found out after some research, has a lot of buzz around the internet. And although he dressed fly, was cute, was confident, and seemed to be a little more known than the others, by now I think everybody was like damn another artist??? I think it was around that point that I had come up out my shoes and a couple people were walking off and going upstairs I think to find a seat. He didn’t grab the people’s attention like that but I can’t say it’s his entire fault. I think by that point people were a little bit antsy. You can actually hear people talking around me in the videos. But like I said I listened to his music online and his lyrics are dope but I will say that a lot of his songs sound alike. Don’t get me wrong, I like them… but they kinda sound alike.

audio-push

Moving on to my faaavorite duo of the night… AUDIO PUSH! These guys showed up and showed out. They got the crowd excited again. Their delivery, style of flow, and overall stage presence was on point! I enjoyed their set very much. They gave so much energy and I could see that these young guys were hungry and they ain’t playin no games. They repped Cali and came to handle their biz and show and prove. I got the chance to talk with Price from the group, he’s such a cutie pie btw, and he was very sweet and humble. When he said to me “Hey how you doin, I like your hair” all I could think of was boooy listen this big girl will turn you out don’t do it lol. But I kept it cute and put my thoughts on mute and kept my cool. While him, Kescia and I shared a couple laughs Oktane was chatting it up with some fans/possible groupies lol. But these guys were really cool and I’m excited to watch their journey as well. After their performance DJ Kayotik kept asking the audience were they ready for Wale then he turned around and brought one more artist out by the name of Lil Durk. To be honest my phone started getting low and all I could think of is will I have enough juice for Wale so unfortunately I didn’t record anything from Lil Durks performance. But I’m sure its somewhere floating around Instagram. It was an ok performance to me. It seemed very last minute like “hey let’s throw you out here to stall time” to me.

walehob2

Wale finally graced the stage around 10:30 and he had a few words for the fans who were tweeting him about taking too long to come out lol. It was kinda funny. He performed about 10 or 11 songs which included “Chain Music” and “The Deep End”. He performed very well and as he said he gives it his all. I was a little afraid that when he asked the lights to be turned down that my pics and videos would be crap but they actually came out okay. He interacted a lot with the crowd and showed mad love to his fans. At one point in the show he even went up on the balcony level and showed love to them too. But why did he keep pretending like he was gonna throw something out in the crowd but didn’t lol. He play too much. I have always liked Wale’s style but it caught me off guard to see him doing his little slow wind on the stage. Well alright, Okay then Mr. Wale! LOL After he performed “Lotus Flower Bomb” I couldn’t take it anymore my feet were killing me and I was tired of standing there. I put my shoes back on and and told Kescia I’ll be sitting down in the lobby area and I’ll see her later lol. Well he did two more songs after I left which was “Clappers” and his verse on Waka Flocka’s “No Hands”.

Overall aside from the unexpected amount of opening acts, it was a really great show and I’m glad that I was introduced to their music. The ticket was only about $30 and it was well worth it. I looked at the reviews on ticketmaster after the show and a lot of people were complaining about the opening acts so hopefully someone in another city will read this and already be prepared. Ladies unless you’re short stop wearin heels knowin damn well you can’t stand that long in them lol. Anywho peep the rest of the pics, links, and videos below…

Sidenote: Now y’all know I can’t leave without a sidenote lol. Sooo I just want to get into the nastiness that occurred at the show. Call me stuck up or bourgeoisie for sayin this but hell it was nasty to me. So one of the opening acts, I can’t remember which one, decided to share a bottle with the audience. AFTER he drank out of it. I was lookin at the people in the audience like really? REALLY??? Y’all some nasty thirsty ass people lol. Y’all don’t know where his mouth been. He coulda just got through eatin ass before the show or something who knows lol. Then when Wale went up to the balcony he sparked one up and they were passing it around too. I can’t…I just can’t. LOL

Elle Varner and Adrian Marcel @ House Of Blues Dallas

Technical difficulties was the theme for Elle Varner and Adrian Marcel’s show at the House of Blues this past Sunday, but the beautiful LA native and the sexy Bay Area heartthrob pushed through it like soldiers. Not only was Elle having the most difficult time with the sound and mics but she was also struggling with a cold coughing away from the mic several times during the show. Even with everything that was going on, by the end of the show the crowd seemed pleased with both performances.

The doors opened at 7:00, the show was set to start at 8 o clock, and we made it to the line outside at 7:30. When we first walked up we were under the impression that there weren’t that many people that had already arrived. Mainly because they had us waiting outside for a while and the line was pretty short so in my head I was thinking I would get a good spot right in front of the stage. HOB had two events going on at the same time so there was a little confusion as to which line to stand in. Once we got inside my heart dropped when we saw a gang of people had already made it and there was no way we would get close to the stage. I could still see from where I was standing but I was just very disappointed and mad at myself for not getting there earlier. I wanted to be able to touch Adrian lol. Anywho tickets were standing only and the crowd did seem to be a little bothered by the wait. It seemed like a long time, probably especially to the women in heels, but it really wasn’t. Adrian’s DJ came out sometime around 8:30 I think and played some throwbacks mixed with some of today’s hottest tracks. In the meantime I was tweeting Adrian Marcel like I knew him personally lol. I was letting him know I made it to his show since he previously tweeted me telling me to come to a show, after I asked him how long was his set on Keyshia Cole’s tour.

Adrian smoothly came on the stage around 8:45 and took us on a west coast ride opening up his set with “Nite & Day” which is an Al B. Sure cover. He continued with about 4 songs off of his mixtapes “7 Days Of Weak” and “Weak After Next” and his new single “Spending The Night Alone”. Adrian Marcel in my opinion brings back the good R&B that I feel we are missing so make sure you download his mixtapes and take a listen, I promise you won’t be disappointed. He also covered Floetry’s “Say Yes” and R. Kelly’s “Bump N Grind” and closed the show with his hit single “2 AM”. During his performance you could tell there were some people that were looking like who is this dude, but by the end they were bobbin their heads and rockin with him. He engaged with the crowd very well and even took a girls phone and sang directly to it. Why couldn’t that have been my phone *sigh*. I purposely am not uploading the video of my favorite song from his mixtape “Waiting” because I gotta be honest, it wasn’t a good performance. All the rest of them were on point but that one, smh nah and its mainly because the sound and feedback was off. But that’s definitely not gonna stop me from seeing him next time he comes in town and I damn sure am gonna make sure I get there early. If you’re reading this I’m gonna get my picture with you one day Adrian! LOL.

Screenshot_2014-12-14-20-16-02-1

Elle Varner graced the stage shortly afterwards and opened up with “Cold Case” which will be on her upcoming album “4 Letter Word” that is set to be released sometime next year. She let us into her Perfectly Imperfect world and let us know that sometimes you gotta role with the punches. Although even with a cold I think she did a phenomenal job and hit those notes like a pro, I won’t be showing some of the full video footage, only clips. When I played them back it was hard to watch again because of the technical difficulties. I don’t think it would be fair to show what probably would look like a bad performance/show to those who weren’t there. She talked about the ups and downs of love and sang about 10 songs which included “Only Wanna Give It To You”, “Refill”, a new song “Nothing”, “I Don’t Wanna Dance”, and “F*ck It All”. She also did a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin On” clearly regarding the current news coverage on police brutality. Her fans also got two impromptu performances out of her of “Welcome Home” and “WTF”. Elle’s quirky and funny personality made me love her even more as I watched her interact with her fans. At the end of the show Elle brought a lucky fan who came all the way from Denver up on stage and gifted them with a nice watch. The show ended around 11:00 pm.

All in all minus the technical difficulties, not being close to the stage, and my feet hurting, I enjoyed the show and recommend everyone to see them next time they’re in town. The ticket was only $25 and it was well worth it. Don’t forget to like and share! Peep the links, pics, and videos below…

P.S. excuse the shakiness, my arms were tired from holding my phone high for so long.

B.O.B @ Winstons Supperclub in Dallas TX

Oh What A Night! (In My Missy Elliot Voice) B.O.B aka Bobby Ray had the club going up this past Saturday at Winston’s Supper Club in Uptown Dallas. This was my second time at Winston’s and I swear it gets LIVE! When they have someone there performing it feels like a huge house party. Me and my girl made sure we were front in center and it definitely paid off! Get into these details lol…

B.O.B Winstons

So we originally was set to go to the Kwanzaa Fest at Fair Park but by the time we were ready to go we looked online to see what the crowd was like and it was already too packed at noon. It was to the point where we probably wouldn’t have been able to see anything. We had heard the main person we wanted to see, which was B.O.B, would be at Winston’s later that night. So we were like scratch Kwanzaa fest, let’s go turn up at the club lol. We met up at Winston’s around 10:30 and it was pretty empty. And it pretty much stayed empty for a good minute, I don’t think people really started pouring in until 11:30. Several selfies and three drinks later, one of which included a free Pineapple Ciroc from the club and it was bomb, the place was packed and B.O.B walked right by me around 12:45 and I automatically yelled out “OH SH!T”. LOL I have never been star struck but I promise I was that night. My grown 31 year old ass felt like a teenager at an Immature concert. Yes I said Immature.

He came in there with his entourage along with Teyana Taylor who also performed at the Kwanzaa Fest earlier that day. Teyana Taylor was such a sweetheart. Every time I took a pic of her she looked and smiled for the camera and not once did I even call her name. She also took a pic with my homegirl but unfortunately due to all the movement around me the pic came out a little blurry. Once B.O.B got situated he hopped on the mic and got the party started by passing out shots to everybody. If I’m not mistaken the theme was Birthday Celebration and Teyana Taylor’s birthday did just pass. His big gold chain was swangin and his hat sliding off as he performed “Headband”, “Paranoid”, and “We Still In This B*tch” and even got down in the crowd to rock with us. I was always a fan of B.O.B’s but he has gained a die-hard fan now. He done messed up and made me feel special by making eye contact at least about 5 times. I guess it wasn’t hard to do being as though I was right in front of him. I had to go home and stalk his Instagram smh. But man oh man when he waved at my homegirl though she damn near died on the floor lol. Oh let me not forget to mention the hoopla and madness he created Friday after posting a pic of him and sweatpants with the hashtag #eggplantfriday. I’m not sure if he created that trend but Instagram went wild. I caught a few people starrin at his crotch lol.

B.O.B Eggplant

My only complaint about the whole night is this blower thing that Winston’s uses. It’s like a mist with confetti in it, like a confetti cannon. Unfortunately I seemed to be directly in front of it. I mean I guess it would be cool for people who were hot, which I wasn’t, but it was just a bit much for me. Also sometime after his performance when everybody was just dancing, I looked over at my friend and she was like “SAVE ME SAVE ME!” This guy was hunchin, yes hunchin on her so I slowly pulled her away and kinda backed him up off her. Tell me why this fool proceeds to hunch on me lol. I mean he was really like a horny little dog that hunches on your leg. So then she pulled me away and we moved on the other side, far away from him lol. All in all I had THE best time and it was only $10 to get in and enjoy this unforgettable experience. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to like and share please 🙂 Peep the links, pics, and videos below….

Concert Review: Usher and August Alsina @ American Airlines Center/URXTour

You know what…there honestly isn’t a whole lot I have to say about this show. It was phenomenal, Usher killed it, August Alsina did his thang (except for the long unnecessary runs), the visual effects were awesome, the band and dancers were great, and I feel like I got my money’s worth for sure. I have a lot of pics and videos that speak for themselves so I don’t know what else to tell you guys lol.

175638a

I bought my ticket about two weeks ago for $177. I was in the first balcony level and had a very good seat and view. I honestly think it’s better than having floor seats because you can see everything without having to rely on watching the screens or worrying about someone tall blocking your view. I had a choice between going to see Usher or Trey Songz and Chris Brown, because my funds wouldn’t allow me to do both I picked Usher and he surely didn’t disappoint. Neither did August Alsina. At first I didn’t care too much to see August, not because I didn’t like his music, but because his personality in a couple interviews had just turned me off. I know that shouldn’t have an effect on me buying an album but it kinda did. Instead of buying the whole album I only bought about three songs of his. But after the show I’m going to go download his album. As far as Usher I’ve been a fan of his since the “Can U Get Wit It” days and I was super excited to see him.

I got to the American Airlines Center around 7:00 and the show was set to start at 7:30. The place wasn’t packed yet and as far as I know it wasn’t a sold out show, so I was wondering if people were gonna pour in later on. DJ Cassidy opened the show with a string of hits. I barely paid attention though because I started chatting it up with the friendly woman next to me. We both came by ourselves. It wasn’t a long wait before the lights dimmed and August Alsina made his way on stage. During his performance of “Make It Home” he asked the crowd to put their lights up for Mike Brown and for anybody that has lost their life to the streets and police brutality. He also talked about pursuing your dreams and how he was homeless two years ago. I honestly didn’t think August was gonna even make the tour after he fainted and fell off stage and was in a coma a couple months ago. Usher didn’t touch on the recent events but he did talk about loving one another. August teased the crowd at the end of his performance by raising his shirt up and also slowly pulling his pants down suuuper low, which literally had me stuck drooling with my mouth open. Unfortunately I didn’t get it on video but after that I am definitely on #teamaugust now. Two of my friends who also attended stated that they was ready for him to get off stage, one of them even said she got up and left on his performance. I’m not sure why. I don’t know if it was because they’re not really fans of his or they didn’t like his performance. Nonetheless I think he did a good job. The lady next to me was calling him skinny when he had his shirt up but hey I like tall skinny guys with tattoos. August had me ready to go make a call after the show smh. He performed about 7 songs and closed it with his first single “Luv This Shit”

usher-cuz-we-can

The break between August and Usher’s performance was pretty quick. He came on stage sometime before 9:30 and he performed hit after hit opening up with “My Way”. It was at least about three times when I thought the show was about to end but he turned around and came back with some more songs. I mean he had 8 albums to choose from so he performed a lot of songs, at least about 16 songs. He didn’t end the show until around 11:15. There was something special he did for the song “Lil Freak” with the special effects but I’m not gonna spill the tea on that nor am I gonna show the video lol. You’ll just have to go to the show for that. Before his “Good Kisser” performance he gave a taste of what he can do on the drums for a good minute. Oh yeah and the fire on the stage, we could feel the heat from where we were sitting. I can only imagine how they felt on stage. The only disappointment I have about Usher is that not once did he take his shirt off lol. He did however lift up his shirt one time. He must be really in love. He never pulled anyone up on stage or anything either. Nothing crazy happened during or after the show. I think a lot of people was ready to turn up. Other than that like I said the show was great, everybody did a great job. Peep the pics, links, and videos below…

P.S. After the show I saw the crazy girl I knew from high school that was at the Luke James concert but she wasn’t drunk this time lol. And aren’t y’all glad I got a new phone lol, me too.

Jagged Edge @ Medusa in Dallas

Weird. Weird. Weird….

Ok so I got inside the club around 9:30, met up with my homegirl, grabbed a drink and then moved close to the dance floor. Tell me why everyone was standing around the dance floor but no one would go out there and dance. I mean it was this big ass circle around the dance floor and people were just two stepping where they were standing. My homegirl was like “what is this high school prom?” It was a hot mess. The DJ was really trying to throw out songs that make people get on the dance floor but these people wouldn’t budge. Next thing I know it was 10:00 which was when I was told the show would start and I saw people setting things up on the stage, so I told my homegirl “man let’s just go on out there and get our spot”. SOOOOON as we got on the dance floor everybody came flooding in like a stampede. We just looked at each other like REALLY…REALLY?

20141009_224111 20141009_223913

Jagged Edge came on stage around 10:30 and I couldn’t even tell you what song they started out with. I don’t know. I have no clue. I will say they looked great, and besides a few muffled moments here and there, they sounded great too. A lot of times when you see artist now who came out back in the 90’s they look all out of shape and sometimes it’s a drastic difference in the way they look now compared to back then. But these guys looked good. Although I’m not into beards so I wasn’t feeling that beard Kyle was rockin. Anywho the fellas are promoting their new album J.E. Heartbreak II with the first single called “Hope” which they did sing at the concert. It took me listening to it a second time to like it and appreciate it. The first J.E. Heartbreak was/is the shiznit so I’m sure this one will be too. It will be available October 27th and I will be downloading because I’ve already heard snippets on their Facebook page and I liiike. Other songs they did at the concert was “Wednesday Lover”, “Promise”, “Let’s Get Married”, “He Can’t Love You”, and “Nice and Slow” by Usher which the twins co-wrote (Who knew that? lol). They ended the show with “Where The Party At” sometime around 11:00. During the show I wound up moving further away from the stage because being right on the stage made it hard for me to get all of them in the video. So I let two women get in front of me. If I would rate the show from 1-10 I would give it a 7. Here’s why…

During the show one of the twins was constantly looking at his phone majority of the time. I can’t tell you which one it was, I can only describe him as the thicker/heavier twin. I noticed as soon as he came on the stage he had the mic in one hand and his phone in the other. I was thinking maybe he was going to take a pic or video of the crowd but that wasn’t it. He kept looking at it all throughout the show and all I could think was is something wrong. I’m sure not many people noticed it, but for someone like me who blogs about concerts it’s my job to pay attention to detail. So because I noticed it, it was hard for me to really turn up like everyone else and really focus on just the performance. Then there was a moment where he stood back by the DJ while the others sang up closer to the audience. Even the DJ was looking at him like bro you alright? Then they had like this intermission where the DJ engaged with the crowd (a part of the show that I could’ve went without) but this same twin left off the stage while the other three remained. Once the intermission was over they kinda stalled before singing the next song until he came back on the stage. I honestly don’t know what to make of all this. Maybe he was waiting on a phone call IDK. It’s very clear to see in the videos (excuse the base I’m still working on that) exactly what I’m talking about. Theeen a couple times I felt like when it came to the ad libs they were singing over each other. It was a lot of “wooo yeah” Jodeci style that I didn’t care for either. Kyle seemed to be into the choreography more than anyone lol. In one of my videos you can see one of the twins stumble on another person but hey the stage is small so I don’t count that.

*sigh* IDK… for a $30 ticket I ain’t trippin. Would I go see them again, maybe. If I do I won’t be focused on trying to record so maybe it will be better. Peep the links and videos below. The first two videos will show you what I’m talkin about. Don’t forget to like and share 🙂

Concert Review: Luke James @ The House Of Blues/Dallas TX

First off let me say the video I was able to record doesn’t do this show any justice. All the artist did such a great job and it honestly felt like I was at a big house party. I hardly think anyone left out of there disappointed. Anywho let’s get into the review…

Although he should be, Luke James is one of those artists that unfortunately isn’t well known yet so I was a little surprised that the concert was going to be at the House Of Blues. Based on the couple of times that I have been to the House Of Blues it was for artist with a larger fan base. I mean even though he has a lot of fans there still are times when I mention him to people and they don’t know who I’m talking about.  Once I got inside it made a lot more sense to me. I got there at around 8:15 but didn’t go inside til around 8:30 because of some confusion outside, and they guided us upstairs to a lounge like area with a stage and a bar. There were some people there already but not many. After I got my drink people started moving closer to the stage since the concert was set to start at 9:00. I wanted to get a good view too so I decided to move close to the stage as well. While waiting I looked around at the crowd, which was cliqued up or coupled up, and I spotted an old co-worker by herself and motioned for her to join me. We chatted up until the opening act came out. Hell I didn’t even know there was going to be an opening act so it was a nice surprise.

Alsace Carcione and Diva-Sol hopped on the stage around 9:30 and set the mood just right. Alsace is a femcee who is originally from Virginia but has been living in Dallas for the past 10 years. It’s hard to describe they’re unique style but I would say that this duo was giving Floetry, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and throwback hip hop all mixed together. I’m not quite sure if they are a permanent duo or if they are separate artist just temporarily working with each other. Nonetheless the both moved the crowd. The lyrics were on point and the sound was most definitely feel good music. Later on after the show I made sure to get Alsace Carcione’s info so I could follow her journey as an artist. I’m always interested in underground music. Miss Diva-Sol sang her ass off! I was recording and trying to hold my composer because I wanted to just yell YAAASSSS GIRL YOU BETTA SANG! But I didn’t want to mess up my video lol. I look forward to hearing more from these two. Their set lasted I’ll say a good 30 mins and Luke James came on not too long afterwards.

UPDATE: The artists are two solo artist and not a group but they have been working with each other for well over 5 years.

Luke James stepped on the stage and the crowd went nuts (by now it was a lot of people there) and he started the show off with the first song on his self-titled album “Love XYZ”. During the beginning of the show he asked that we let loose and feel, stating that he sensed some of the people in the crowd were a little uptight. He told us to leave our cares behind and worry about the here and now and have a good time tonight. He continued with his singles “Exit Wounds”, “Options” (which if you didn’t know was a song about the option to abort a baby. Awesome lyrics), and “Dancing in the Dark”. The Grammy nominated singer also performed some of his older released singles and songs off of his mix tape Whispers In The Dark. When he performed “Make Love to Me” I felt like I was in the Good Times photo at someones basement house party. The crowd grooved from side to side as we all absorbed the good vibes. Luke James had plenty of energy as he took us from sexual healing, to feeling gangsta/hood and turning up, to comedy, and to church with a few Hallelujahs’. Halfway through the show (you may notice this in the videos) my feet were hurting so bad and then I also started getting cramps in my side, so I had lose my place and go sit down on one of the nearby couches. I had been standing there feeling hot too and once I started feeling nauseated I knew it was time to move. I sat down for about 5 mins and enjoyed the sound of his voice as he performed his version of Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” and then stood back up to record and watch the rest of the show. He closed out the show with his single “I Want You” and provided us with those high pitch vocals that we LIVE for.

Sugar-Shack_Ernie-Barnes_Good-Times

Once the crowd started leaving I went to find my old co-worker who was waiting for Luke James to come back out. I was confused because I thought the show was over but low and behold he reappeared and performed one last song. Problem is I could not tell you what the heck it was. It had a Prince sound to it and was about a forever kind of love. After the song he let the crowd know that he would be taking pictures with whoever had the album downloaded from iTunes on their phone. Being as though I don’t have an Iphone and my feet was still killing me, I hugged my co-worker goodbye and made my exit. She later text me telling me that he kissed her on the cheek and she got her pic. Overall I would say besides me getting sick, this was one of the best concerts that I’ve been to so far. Definitely got my $30 worth and would love to see him again. Peep all the links and videos below…

Sidenote: Let’s get into the ratchetness that occurs at the end of the show. During pretty much the whole show I could hear someone to my right being loud as hell, which is expected at a concert. But I’ve felt like once the music is lowered and the artist is talking, not involving the audience, but just trying to be sensual, this is not the time to turn up and interrupt the artist. So during the last performance of the Prince type song, I hear a loud mouth yelling “SHUT UP BOY! SHUT UP BOY! YOU AIN’T PRINCE! SHUT UP!” I turn my head to see wtf is going on and it was an old classmate of mine from high school. OMG I covered my face with my hand as if I was embarrassed and couldn’t believe it. So not cool. This girl has always claimed to be classy so I was a little shocked by her behavior and I wondered was she drunk and if she was the one I had been hearing all night. IDK but I hope that I’m never in a small setting like that with her again after that.

Chrisette Michelle @ Medusa in Dallas TX

OK so I’ll be the first to say that although I liked some of Chrisette Michele’s music before last night I wasn’t the biggest fan, and I don’t mean this in a negative way. Even though she is considered an RnB artist, her music is very much influenced by Jazz. I like some Jazz (Boney James, Sade, Pieces Of A Dream) but it’s very seldom that I actually buy an album. Despite the fact that I love and buy all of Chrisette Michele’s singles, the only album I’ve ever bought was the first one titled I Am.  What I’ve realized about myself, especially after last night, is that I tend to like the more up-tempo jazz music better live than the record. In all honesty what made me buy a ticket for her show was seeing her on the TV One show RnB Divas. Her personality, style, and the peek into how she is behind the music scene is what made me want to go. Plus a friend of mine is one of her photographers and I knew he’d be there and I wanted to catch up with him. Needless to say I was completely blown away by her performance. Get into these details….

I decided to get there early because of what happened at the Donell Jones concert. I will say I got in there quicker than I did last time. Evidently they found a better and faster way to check tickets. I strolled up into Medusa around 9:15 and chopped it up with my friend by the bar for a while. Then while he made his way backstage I moved closer to the stage to make sure I had a good spot. I must say out of all of the concerts I’ve been to that had DJ’s mixing this one did his thang. DJ Phil really was JAMMIN! I didn’t drop it like it’s hot this time though lol. The crowd was mostly people that looked to be in their 30’s and it was a sprinkle of some older folks and couples. Sometime after 10:30 the radio personality from 105.7 came on stage, hyped up the crowd, and then introduced Chrisette Michele but she didn’t come on stage. Everyone was just standing there like umm ok where is she??? So the DJ went back to playing music then around 11:00 she finally graced the stage looking GORGEOUS. She opened up with her song “Epiphany” and immediately the crowd started singing along. I must admit I don’t know why but I thought she was only going to be very poised with very little movement during the show much like how she was in her video for “If I Had My Way”. But honey I was wrong! Bae Bae Ms. Chrisette grooved across that stage all night. And I swear like three times I thought she looked right at me lol, I don’t know maybe I was trippin. She also performed songs “Golden”, “Charades”, “Let’s Rock”, “What You Do”, and “Mr. Radio”. One of the songs I really liked that I hadn’t heard before that had me like oooh I gotta go download that was “Supa”. I think what impressed me the most about the whole performance was how she was able to capture my attention, how she connected and interacted with the audience, and how she was able to bring about certain emotions within me. Cause when she sang “Blame It On Me” and “Better” I promise I was all up in my feelings! Especially when she got to preachin. When she was saying “I deserve someone that will love me and make me feel better” inside I was just like YAAASSS I DO! Where is my Mr. Right? Yes all in my feelings smh. At some point she introduced all the members of her band and they each did a quick solo and I gotta say homegirl picked some great musicians because they were BAD! (in good way)I am a sucka for a great band. Halfway through the show she hooked us up with her version of Erykah Badu’s song “On and On” which I’ll have posted below. The Grammy Award winner and 10 times nominated artist for multiple awards closed the show with her single “A Couple Of Forevers”. The show ended around 12:30. Her music is so relatable and I think like most people I personally had gotten used to liking commercial music that didn’t have much depth or meaning to it. Going to this concert allowed me to take a step back and recognize good music again.

Overall the show was great and I most definitely wouldn’t mind seeing her again. I really don’t have much bad things to say about the show. Sometimes the music seemed to be louder than her and you had to listen hard to understand what she was saying but that didn’t happen a lot during the show. I feel like I got more than my money’s worth (ticket was $30). She also made sure to mention Mike Brown and how we need to love one another and the police brutality needs to stop. If you’ve been under a rock somewhere and don’t know about the Mike Brown controversy I heavily suggest you Google it. She also promoted her new website richhipster.biz which is a website that showcases art, music, fashion, and more. Be sure to go and check that out. After the show was over I linked back up with my friend and we went to eat at a place down in Deep Ellum called Buzzbrews. If you haven’t been I suggest you go if you’re ever in the area and get their chicken quesadillas cause it was the bomb.com. Anywho I had a great time. Chrisette Michele is a dope artist, her voice is truly and instrument, and I look forward to her future project The Lyricist Opus. Peep the links and my personal videos below and don’t forget to share my blog 🙂 …

Sidenote: Why halfway through the show I realized I needed to wipe my camera lens and I figured out a way to make the video clearer. Unfortunately some of the video footage I have the music is too loud so I didn’t bother posting. :-/

Beyonce & JayZ On The Run Tour/AT&T Stadium

First off I have to say I will be forever grateful for my brother getting me a ticket and giving me the opportunity to experience Beyonce and JayZ live in concert. Everybody close to me knows how much I’m a huge Beyonce fan. I mean I don’t have posters of her on my walls, her t-shirts, key chains and stuff like that with her name on it LOL. But I’m pretty damn close to being that type of fan. So much that I actually get upset when people say they don’t like her and they are automatically a hater in my book. Cause I mean what’s not to love about Bey. And likewise I have been a fan of JayZ since…well I won’t say since the beginning, more like since The Hard Knock Life days. I think most people were annoyed with all of my Beyonce and Jayz video post that I made on my Facebook page the day before LOL. I was too turnt. Anywho this review is going to be different from the other ones because I’m not going to go from start to finish.

I’m going to start off with the good things first. The concert was supposed to start at 8:00 pm but my brothers fiancé and I didn’t get to our seats until around 8:30, so it was a good thing that they weren’t on time. (we expected that anyway) The concert started at 9:00 AND THE PLACE WAS PACKED! Whoever said they weren’t selling tickets, well I don’t know where they got that info. There was no opening act. Les Twins showed up and showed out as expected. Those guys are definitely two of the most talented dancers I’ve ever seen. If you don’t know them Google them, they used to dance for Michael Jackson. Of course her other dancers and musicians did an awesome job as well. Bey (my cousin in my head) looked FAB in her outfits and even hit us with some popular new dances like the Nae Nae. Half of the songs she did were songs off of her latest self-titled album, and the other half were songs from previous albums. She sang “Pretty Hurts”, “Bow Down/Flawless”,  “Single Ladies”, and one of my favorites “Resentment” just to name a few. Every time she sings Resentment I tear up. I FEEL YOU GIRL! JayZ moved across the stage like the cool and smooth dude that he is performing “FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt” and “Tom Ford” off of his latest album Magna Carta…Holy Grail. He also performed the oldies but goodies “Dirt Off Your Shoulders” and “Big Pimpin” where he paid tribute to late great rapper Pimp C by rapping his verse. They basically took turns performing and there was no intermission. I thought it was cute that they played on the rumors of them splitting but ended it by basically saying at the end of the day Love is what’s most important. Beyonce also performed a cover of Lauryn Hill’s song “Ex-Factor” and I thought it was great. Let’s see what else was good… ah the lighting and special effects, the good company I was in, and my margarita drink. This was my brothers fiancé and I first time spending a significant amount of time together alone and I feel like we bonded a little. The other good thing I will say is when it came to parking, we parked down the street from the stadium for $20. It didn’t take us that long to get back to the car, even though it seemed like it did cause we were tired, but we got out of the traffic a lot sooner than the people that were parked in the stadium parking lot.
Beyonce-Jay-Z-Run-Video
Now on to the bad things… *sigh*… I’m gonna choose my words carefully because the last thing I want to do is sound ungrateful. Whenever someone does something for you, especially from the heart, the last thing you wanna do is say something bad about it. But I have to be honest to my readers. The view from our seats wasn’t good. I was in section 445, row 4, and seat 10. I will post pics below so you can get an idea of where I was. I would not have minded the location of the seats if they had showed the concert on the jumbotron which was the big screen that was directly in front of us. But unfortunately they didn’t. It came on at the beginning of the concert to show a clip of the On The Run film and then didn’t come back on until later throughout the show. At first we were thinking maybe there was some malfunction but we soon realized the only time they were going to turn it on was to show clips of the film. I was highly annoyed and disappointed by this because even though there was a screen down below next to the stage I had to lean a little onto my neighbor to get a decent picture and better view. Also at the beginning of the show there was no sound in our section. We could hear sound in the distance from other areas but not ours. At some point I noticed a guy who looked like he worked for the stadium come by and about 20 minutes later the sound was on and we could hear. Even though now we could hear, there still remained a bad echo throughout the entire performance. Had I not known the beats and every Beyonce song I would not have known what song was playing because I couldn’t understand what she was saying half of the time.  As for JayZ we seemed to be able to hear him a little better but because I couldn’t understand what he was saying some of the time either, there were I think 3 songs he did that I have no idea what they were. My phone was no help either. I got a new one with a better camera and every time I tried to zoom in it got even fuzzier. Then when I tried to take pics of the screen below the light was too bright and it wasn’t showing the image correctly on my phone. A lot of the pics and videos I took I ended up deleting. Beyonce sang a song called “Haunted” and even though I like the song I feel like she should’ve chose a different song to sing than that one. Not because she sounded bad but I just felt like she had plenty of other upbeat songs she could’ve chosen from. So for future reference, anybody that is considering buying the nose bleeds seats, I would say to be sure you are in clear view of the screen below and to make sure you bring a good camera because they may not turn on the jumbotron. The only performance that they showed on the jumbotron was the very last performance of them singing and rapping “On The Run” and also showing videos of precious little Blue Ivy. Although the visuals and special effects were awesome a lot of smoke came up from the sides of the stage, and if your view is from the sides of the stage your view is blocked from seeing them on stage sometimes. The show ended I believe a little before 12 am.
Beyonce & JayZ On The Run Tour/AT&T Stadium
At the end of the day I feel blessed to have had the experience and to say I’ve been to a JayZ and Beyonce concert…for free at that. Even with all the negative things and the disappointment I still had a good time and from what I did catch on the screen below they put on a good show. Please like and share the review because I would really love to know what other peoples experience was.

Sidenote: Why were a lot of women wearing heels and skin tight freakum dresses? Looking like a fool wobbling back to their car smh. There was one particular lady that stood up the whoooole entire time dancing and we kept laughing at her but at the same time was worried she would fall over the balcony. She was turned up for real. I don’t know if she was drunk or just a huge Beyonce fan, nonetheless her boyfriend was completely unbothered by her and the show.

Peep the pics and the videos below (some including videos from other shows)…..

Tamar Braxton @ The House Of Blues In Dallas/Love And War Tour

YAAAASSSSS HUNTY TAMAR DID THAT!.. Ok let me calm down and get into it.
First of all I called myself getting there an hour early at 7:30 to miss the long line and to hopefully get a really close view of the stage. Umm NO! The Tamartians (the name of her fans) was not playing! The line was already down the street when I got there but at least I wasn’t too far behind. Once I got inside I made my way to the stage where K104 DJ’s Aye Bay Bay and DJ Star entertained the crowd with a mix of old school and new school music. DJ Aye Bay Bay was a fool and had me crackin up but the other DJ was doin that 30 second snippet bull that gets on my nerves. Every time I started dancing and getting into a song he switched it. DJ’s STOP DOING THIS! It’s annoying as hell!

The show was supposed to start at 8:30 but Tamar came out around 8:50 which isn’t bad at all. Honey once she did everybody on the floor moved even closer to the stage and this lady and her wig in front of me was messing up my view. During the whole show I had to maneuver around her so I could see. She started out the show with her song “She Did That”. The speakers were waaaay too loud at first. I barely could hear her. The rest of the show I could hear her and she sounded good live as expected.  She didn’t have background doo whop pop chicks like she likes to call them lol but she had some dancers, and the men were fiiiiine. I think they were the same dancers she picked out on her show Tamar And Vince. She danced her ass off poppin it and droppin it to the floor. She danced so hard that the 37 year old had to have “several seats”, as she would like to say, during the show. She kept it real with her fans and let us know she was tired lol. All throughout the show she gave us plenty of DIVA with the hair flips, pose for the cameras, 3 different wardrobes, and gay lingo. She semi preached and told stories to her fans at the beginning of her songs about finding the right man, keeping that man, and when to let a no good man go. She was speaking nothing but truth and I gained another level of respect for her after that. My favorite song off the album is “Pieces” and when she sang it she did good but she didn’t kill it like I wanted her too. I think she was a little out of breath but it was ok. At some point during the show I heard someone yell “OMG VINCE!” and I turned around to see him passing through the crowd right behind me. I was like Oh Hey Vince. Iif you don’t know who Vincent Herbet is, google him. Ok so back to the show, did I say how fiiiine her dancers were lol. During one of her wardrobe changes the two male dancers came out and danced shirtless for the crowd. I mean they were dancing so good I was lookin for some dollar bills to throw. The girls were going crazy. Someone behind me yelled “you know they gay right?!” I turned around and turned up my lip. UGH who gives a damn if they were gay or not they was workin it and they were FINE! LOL.

She closed the show by bringing four fans up to the stage with her to sing her #1 platinum selling single “Love And War”. I will say I enjoyed the show but I don’t EVER want to have standing tickets again. Almost three hours of standing and dancing, no thank you. I felt sorry for the girls tryin to be cute in high heels. On the way to my car one girl took her shoes off and left them there on the sidewalk. I think she sang all of her songs off the album, I don’t remember her singing “The One” but I could be wrong. Depending on how much I like her next album I wouldn’t mind seeing her again. I will say if you are not a fan of her personality this was not a show you would have wanted to go to. She brought every bit of sass like she has on her shows right along with her so I wouldn’t suggest going to her concert just because you like her music . Tongue pops and all. I’m not gonna lie when I initially saw some clips of her live performances and outfits on Instagram prior to going to her show, it did remind me of Beyonce. But she made sure you knew the difference between the two. I never once thought of Beyonce during the show. After the show was over Vince came by with security a second time, this time literally right in front of me. So close that his elbow rubbed up against my boob lol. Anywho she sang her ass off, I was entertained, and I gotmylife.com  🙂 *In my Tamar voice* YEAH BABY! Peep some clips from The Braxton Family Values and some of the songs sang below…

P.S. I promise I’ll get a better camera soon
